No matter what our political affiliations are, we have a responsibility to make elected officials accountable once in office.
If you want to find out how your senator or representative voted on recent legislation, check this page out every Sunday in the Seattle Times....

If you see something you don't agree with then write them a letter or call their office!
If you are against supporting pork projects like the bridge to nowhere in Alaska, Patty Murray & Norm Dick's $4.5 million boat the Navy didn't even want or Doc Hasting's $300,000 pork barrel project the Walter Clore Wine and Culinary Center in Prosser, then we need to speak up!
With the price of gasoline and other goods and services increasing, citizens are all forced to cutback in their personal spending........why shouldn't our elected officials in Washington DC do the same?
I am tired of "Business As Usual"!

Speaking of accountability, does anyone have a clue what their new water rates will be?

Speaking of accountability, here's a question: why does someone living outside the city limits and paying no taxes to the city, sit on the city's personnel committee?
http://www.ci.white-salmon.wa.us/committee%20appointments.htm
I see three council members on this committee.....which one lives outside the city limits?
The person is a "citizen" member, not a council member as they have to live within the city limits.
Point is, there certainly should be "outside" representation on committees that deal with things that affect areas the outside city limits, like annexation or water, but personnel is city business. It is not fair to employees or appropriate for local taxpayers.
GI bill, jobless checks
By a vote of 256-166, the House on Thursday adopted an amendment to HR 2642 to establish a new GI bill that would pay higher-education costs at public universities for post-
9/11 military veterans. The amendment also would provide $11 billion to pay for 13 additional weeks of jobless checks for the long-term unemployed, $5.8 billion for rebuilding levees in New Orleans and $1.2 billion in global food assistance. The $52 billion cost of the GI benefit would be offset by tax increases on individual incomes of more than $500,000 and joint incomes of more than $1 million. The bill is before the Senate.
Voting yes: Inslee, Larsen, Baird, Dicks, McDermott, Smith
Voting no: Hastings, McMorris Rodgers, Reichert
Rep Hastings voting no on an upgraded GI Bill? Don't our men and women in uniform deserve better GI benefits?
Remember this vote in November!
a good reason to vote for George Fearing.
GOP tax plan
By a vote of 201-220, the House on Wednesday defeated a Republican bid to remove tax increases on multinational corporations and hedge-fund managers from HR 6049 (above) and thus shift the bill's cost to the national debt. The motion also sought to extend tax credits and deductions for five years rather than the bill's one-year renewals and temporarily fix the alternative minimum tax to keep it from ensnaring still more middle-class filers in 2008.
Voting yes: Hastings, McMorris Rodgers, Reichert.
Voting no: Inslee, Larsen, Baird, Dicks, McDermott, Smith.

Why does Doc Hastings want multi national corporations and hedge fund managers to get tax break?
DNC bans lobbyist money

This is a good place to start and it would be nice to see the GOP follow suit.

"Senate GOP blocks windfall taxes on Big Oil"
It's no secret that I am a registered Democrat that upon occasion, if the right Republican comes along, they will get my vote.
But are there any Republicans out there that are a little bit ticked off at their party about this vote?
If not, give me a lesson in economics and tell me why you support tax breaks for oil companies?
I need to understand the reasoning behind this vote, because to me it looks like some incumbants are in need of funding for their fall re-election campaigns.
