Yes! The County Commissioners Have Listened!

Husum/BZ Corner Sub-Plan Hearing has been rescheduled to be held on Thursday, September 6 at the Pioneer Center beginning at 1 PM.
Please try to make it to the hearing to express your concerns on the scope and planning of this very large change to our little county.

A Saturday meeting no less!! That means that people who work Mon-Fri can attend the meeting as well. I'm beginning to think that if we can't have County meetings at the Pioneer building on a regular basis for things occurring on this end of the county, we might should look into dividing the county in half and become West Klickitat County! Afterall, the West end of the county is the tax base for the entire county because so many farms for the rest of the county are in special agriculture. But yet all the meetings take place in Goldendale, an hour drive away.
So what does it take to divide the county into two separate counties??

I am all for making a new county. The commissioners don't seem to reflect the values of the West end except when it comes to developing their own interests!

That's an interesting statement. Commissioner Struck single-handedly had the Pioneer Center build after years and years of other commissioner's empty promises.

I would like to hear what you feel are the collective "Values" of the West enders.

I don't get your question.....this building was built form the ground up with money from the land fill.....why would a realtor be involved. Am I missing something?

If your comment is insinuating that I had something to do with the land acquisition or benefitted in any way from the transaction -- sorry, you're sadly mistaken. Just another conspiracy theory gone awry.

It's amazing to me how so many people get outraged about the comment Roger Holen made about local bloggers being ignorant, THEN when someone makes an incredibly ignorant insinuation like this that proves his point, and no one says a thing.

Whom ever is just wonderin......
Get some facts before you ask a rediculous question that could easily turn into a huge misinformation campaign and possibly effect a persons reputation and livelihood in an adverse way.

I don't know who the Realtor was who sold the land to the county, but more than likely, there wasn't a Realtor involved whatsoever. The real question is, when Don Struck went to bat for the West End to have such nice offices, Senior Center and meeting place, why isn't it being used for meetings which impact the West end of the county? It is ridiculous that it isn't. Why can't a few people from the Planning Dept or Road Dept or whoever is needed along with the Commissioners, travel to White Salmon instead of taking the whole community of White Salmon to Goldendale? I still say we should explore creating a new county. Ranges 10, 11, 12 & 13 should go to the new county and 14-22 can stay with the old county. I'm sure it can be done. (maybe Goldendale County employees will begin to be nice to us westenders- ya think?)

Squeekywheel,

I understand your frustration with county and the needs of the West End. I am sure many people in Underwood probably feel the same way about Skamania county and would entertain the thought of ceceeding. One thing to consider with your theory.......your new county would have zero share of land fill revenues AND if there is any debt still owed on the Pioneer Center.......who pays?

Well, Beatledawg, you are right on that one. No sharing the revenues from the landfill. It must be noted that Stevenson is only 20 miles one-way for the people from Underwood to travel, while Goldendale is 49 miles for the people from White Salmon. I do feel that County officials should travel to Pioneer Square for the meetings that impact the west end.

Squeeky,

You are right on and I think at LEAST one meeting a month should be held here!

Thanks for the agreement but are any of the Commissioners and County employees listening? The one meeting a month could be used to take care of all land divisions etc for the westend with people present from the westend. How refreshing that would be to actually have the people affected at the meetings!!
