Thanks, Don Struck, for proving our points. I'm sure we all appreciate your
advice to get informed. Isn't that what we've been asking you and your
Planning Commission to do? Come to White Salmon and HELP us get informed on
the plan? Thanks, too, for telling us that the lawyers say you have to
remove yourself from the discussions about the Husum/BZ Plan since you have
a conflict of interest.
So who are you going to appoint to be your proxy on the Commission? Do you
all really think it's going to be okay to approve this plan to make you rich
just because you aren't on the Board? And what about your friend Rick
Graves? Shouldn't he have removed himself from the Planning Commission?

The plan should come back to the Husum/BZ Council for revision, before the BOCC holds a hearing. People should should quickly contact the Council members (politely and with offers of help) and ask them to withdraw the Plan. Also contact County Commissioners with the same request.

For your information, the property Don and I own slated for a re-zone is the golf course. It is proposed to go from 5,000 sq. ft. minimum lot size to one-acre. Get it? The proposed lot size will make the minimum size LARGER than it currently is. If we were concerned about "getting rich" then I guarantee we'd be much better off developing the course into homesites rather than feeding the business every year so the community has an affordable place to play.

Hi y'all...I've been following with interest all the whining and complaining from you who always complain and whine...now that Don Struck has stepped down as county commissioner (thanks Don for your years of service) he has time for his kids after school events and I think since he has time he should hurry and divide the golf course into 50x100 lots before this zone change goes through and limits him to far less lots!...just kiddin..sorta...but the point is that a lot of you complainers are so un-informed as to be ridiculous and completely without credability!...in the event you had a legitimate concern who would listen?...remeber the boy who cried wolf?
Hmmm....funny that when you want something you urge people to be "polite." Politeness has not been shown to Commissioner Struck throughout his time of service. Agree with him or not, he (like all people) at least deserves to be treated decently. Come on, people, disagree, stand up for what you believe in, whatever, but please, try to be civil. And if you feel the overwhelming urge to be nasty to someone, like "anonymous" was to Commissioner Struck, at least be brave enough to put your real name to it.
Once again Commissioner Struck has become the fall guy. Did you attend the Husum/BZ Community Council meetings during the past several years at which time this plan was being discussed? Seems to me there were dozenas of OPEN planning meetings before asrriving at this proposal. I am so sick of a good man being attacked and lied about. The only bright spot is that I don't think very many people read this venom except those that post it and those that check it occasionally to see what lies have been written about them this week.

Look, maybe Don and Heidi should divide the golf course into 5,000 minimum lots as soon as possible, but then that would require they put in a fresh water system as well as a waste water system and the water rights alone could be a problem for years to come.
Let's be reasonable about this. The real problem as I see it is "communication". As I previously stated in this blog, Don went to bat for the westend and had the Pioneer Building built. But then, the county continued to force westend residents to go to Goldendale for all property related decisions with very few exceptions. The article in the Enterprise was the first interview with Don about what is going on in the county that I recall seeing in absolutely ages (and that means since the last election). So, where is the Enterprise and why aren't they doing a better job of informing people on what is going on in the County Commissioners offices? I had no idea some of the things Don talked about were really happening (and, I must say I was delighted!). So why aren't the commissioners interviewed on a continuous basis? Then again, nothing is ever available on-line after you have discarded your newspaper, so if it occurred while you were out of town, tough luck. In fact, a few interviews in the past might have dispelled any rumors as to the reason behind the widening and repaving of Rattlesnake Rd close to property the Struck's had available for sale at one time. I learned through another commissioner that most of those funds to do that road actually from the federal govt-not the county budget. But, a dialog with westend people might have answered that question a long time ago. And, it doesn't help if a spouse gets in a tizzy on this blog... Quite frankly, 9 years is a long time to commute to Goldendale Don. Your list of achievements are greatly appreciated by this blogger. As to the Enterprise, am I the only person who wonders why I'm spending money on it?
Communication goes both ways. The commissioners could call the Enterprise and say "I have some important information to share with the community."
As for the county budget being in the black... wow, high unemployment, high number of uninsured health care, high teen pregnancy, big high school drop out rates, marginal housing for lower income persons,no public transportation and some other woes.. Call me a whiner, but there is a lot more than just making the county check book stay balanced. As for the Struck's golf course being a community resource, I'll send some hungry people, marginally housed folks right over.

I think your expectations of county government are way out of wack.........you can't blame state and federal ineptness on county officials. Do you want to blame Don for Hurricane Katrina too?
Operating in the black is huge in this day and age and the county does help with local programs like tourism, the WS youth center, law enforcement, the Pioneer Center and GAP.
Maybe you expect Klickitat County to solve all the problems that exist here..........how would they do that if they were in the RED?

I agree making operating in the black is to be commended and important, good work. But it is not the whole picture. No the commissioners did create the problems, nor can they solve them on their own, but we do need leadership and vision from them. Yes, there are policies on the state and federal level that impact the community, there are also resources and grants as well and representatives and senators to network with.
So, what is the vision, what is the strategic plan to make Klickitat Co. a place where persons of diverse background and incomes can live and seek a quality of life.
For those of us having been here our whole lives, "OUR" vision may not be at all to try to attract people.
I agree, let's just focus on the folks that are here.

So, in your opinion, the landfill just magically appeared in Roosevelt one day without any negociations or discussions by a county official?
When the contracts have been renegociated......what do you think, they had the janitor (no offense to the janitor) handle the details with RABANCO?
Come on.....maybe you don't like Don personally or if you don't like the job he has done for you as a tax payer, tell us some specifics. I think when you consider everything the job of commissioner entails, he has done a commendable job.
I for one am thankful that the county has the reserves it has......some people in this county would have said no to RABANCO from the beginning and then where would we be? You talk about high property valuations, the landfill helps keep your property taxes lower than they could be.

I don't think that is an accurate statement. I think that throughout life you are going to run into some bad apples - some people who aren't happy with themselves, so how can they be nice to anyone else? (Just like Anonymous on this board) However, I think the majority of people, as shown in prior elections, were quite happy with Don.
This is obviously how little communities get turned into cities: Someone with land scratches the back of someone with yes/no power, and then-bam! Never mind that the real estate market is a buyer's market, and people right now just are buying. Why is it, that there are people against this, and no leaders opposed? Strange phenomena.
Oh, and by the way, beatle-hog, you should wipe your nose buddy. It might be rotting off with all the feces on it.
