Who invited Mr Marx to facilitate this? It sounds like a sham to me.

If the organizers of this event were really interested in a fair dialog they would get a fair minded and balanced person to facitate. Not a fire-brand city councilor who publishes wild and slanderus rants in the paper. The only dialog I read about him having is one sided, backwards facing and inflexible.

I hope to be at the town meeting tonight but I have very low expectaions for it with the chosen facilitator.

Why cant he facilitate a street committe meeting (that he suposedly chairs) if he is so interested in the general good of the town?

Organizing a town hall in this manner serves to devide the town further.

but... maybe he can rise to the occasion...

Two sided? At least Ricky isn't two faced like some on that council.

Hey Juggy, Who do you think is fair minded and balanced? I sure isn't the councilmen who did NOT ATTEND LAST NIGHTS MEETING. They seem to fear facing the voters in an open forum.

I must apologize. It was fear that go the best of me.

after seeing the dialog at the meeting I am very incouraged and hopefull for the city.

Sorry. Thanks to all who came and kept it positive.
I have seen crazy accusations and antics before and was afraid of that. I am happy to have been very wrong.

Humbled and hopefull,
Juggy

I wanted to attend the meeting but did not because I thought there would have been already two councilors there and did not want to break any rules.

My wife attended and reported that there was a great turn out and a great exchange of ideas. I applaud Rick for organizing it.

My wife took good notes on issues and discussions. I am hopefull that that the tone of the regular city meetings can be more thoughtfull and constructive. I will certainly do what I can to make that happen.

Thanks for all who turned out.

I was also happy to see about 50 people show up for the meeting. Even though there were reportedly a few 'spies' in attendance, it appeared that most people are genuinely concerned about the city. Folks were actually encouraged to show up at council meetings and participate. I sensed more frustration than mean spiritedness. I guess its up to us to get informed on all this boring water and zoning issues.

I didn't go to the meeting last night due to previous plans and like Juggy, I had little faith that it would be anything but a rant and rave session. My phone rang this morning from a friend who reported that it was well attended with a lot of good discussion of concerns and ideas. I was really pleased to hear that. I must confess that I, along with many others, had lost trust in the city & county government due to what could be "just appearances of impropriety". I'm hopeful that trust can be restored and communication opened to a two-way street.

What a good meeting we had. IF the council would only be more receptive to citizens ideas and frustrations we would not be in the shape we are. I applaud everyone who spoke. We aren't as far apart as one would believe. We have concerns and it looks like Richard Marx is the only one on the council that cares. He is also the only one who is not afraid to listen to us. Someone in the audience sure made it straight why more people don't attend council meetings. Listen up Timmi and Brad, we elected you, you represent us. If not we can sure make a change.

I am not sure what people's SPECIFIC complaints are about certain members of the council....could someone enlighten me......and remember let's talk facts not feelings here!

I'm "anonymous" but wish to contribute. Something positive occurred that night.

The meeting held last Thursday night, of the White Salmon area, was executed in good
order. Citizen expressions were freely given and received. Question will ber esearched and answers obtained as quickly as possible. Thanks to Rick for arranging this meeting and most important to the over 40 people who attended and expressed themselves. Additional meetings were requested.

I am also "annonymous", and was at the town hall meeting. I agree the meeting was generally positive and constructive. However, I still wonder about the leadership of Mr. Marx and whether his group isn't mostly about people who just don't like "outsiders". Ricky has made it clear with his statements, including last Thursday night, that he is the one who sees this as a battle against outsider developers who he complains have come into White Salmon. But, you also hear the "us" vs. "them" talk all the time from his core supporters' statements, everything from "we have always had train whistles around here, if you don't like them maybe you should move somewhere else", to "there were 'spies' in attendance at the town hall.

I didn't grow up in White Salmon but I have lived here a long time and it is my home. I am concerned about growth, but I am also just as concerned about citizens who are only negative about things. They are the ones who want to judge ideas by who says them, not whether what they say makes sense.

Speaking of "us and Them"- What about busy-bodies that dont live in the city but have inserted themselves in every bit of city business.

Get a life.

Well Cinder, I don't know who you are talking about, for I don't know many people who attend these meetings that aren't affected by the City Council meetings. For instance, even if you live outside the city boundaries but you are on the city sewer or water, you should be concerned about what goes on at City Hall. It seems that in the past 10 years our water bills have over doubled. And it was done by decisions made by the City Council. It is too bad they didn't have Mike Wellman in there years ago. I think the locals who have lived here before the area was "discovered" don't much take to people coming in and taking over the town.
